This Server Tech Rack PDU (Power Distribution Unit), also known as a CDU® (Cabinet Distribution Unit), is a Switched POPS™ (Per Outlet Power Sensing) Rackmount PDU with PIPS™ (Per Inlet Power Sensing).

Switched POPS Rack PDUs provide power metering at the outlet level, which means power metrics can be gathered and reported on a per device basis. Additionaly, the Server Tech Switched POPS with PIPS PDUs will also monitor the power infeed/inlet to the PDU to monitor Current Load (A), Voltage (V), Power (W), Apparent Power (VA), Crest Factor, Reactance, Accumulated Energy (kWh), and Power Factor per Inlet. With the built-in software provided on Switched CDUs, individual or groups of outlets can be remotely managed (reboot, turned on or off). Some prefer to turn outlets off as a default, which would require special permission to turn an outlet on. This can be used to enhance security and prevent overloads from occuring at the rack PDU level.

Blade servers and high density computing power requirements continue to increase within the Data Center, creating heat proliferation and more challenges for managing the IT environment. To maintain their competitive advantage, data center managers need solutions such as Sentry Switched POPS (Per Outlet Power Sensing) units that monitor, track and manage servers and IT equipment and the equipment cabinet infrastructure that houses them.

Sentry Switched POPS combines all the features and functions of a Switched Cabinet PDU with the ability to provide power monitoring per an individual outlet/device. This combined with the Server Tech SPM (Sentry Power Manager) appliance creates a powerful combination allowing managers to accuratley determine power consumption at various levels throughout the data center.

Power Information Per Individual Outlet
  • Current load (A)
  • Voltage (V)
  • Power (kW)
  • Apparent power (VA)
  • Crest factor
  • Power factor

Using grouping technology, power information is available per device, groups of devices (application), individual Cabinet PDU or cabinet.
